from my trip to the historic seaport at mystic, conn. my daughter is studying there for the fall semester.
"Mystic Seaport is a maritime museum, educational institution, historic village and shipyard located in Mystic, Connecticut, with origins in the mid-1700s and is situated on the Mystic River... Mystic Seaport has 60 historic buildings and a village displaying exhibits of historical artifacts. It has more than 300 examples of old watercraft, the largest collection in the country. This collection includes two fully-rigged Tall Ships (the 1841 whaler, the Charles W. Morgan, and the 1821 iron-hulled Joseph Conrad) and several other important ship resources."
"Mystic Seaport and Williams College offer a Maritime Studies program focusing on undergraduate courses in literature of the sea, maritime policy, maritime history, oceanography, and marine ecology. Each year, 22 students from around the country spend a semester at the seaport as part of an educational travel program."10-17-09-- Saturday "Handmade Parade" in Hillsborough -- from the website: "The purpose of this outreach event is to foster community involvement in the arts through participation in every aspect. The informal atmosphere and hands-on character of the experience allows members of the community to work directly with creative people while gaining confidence in their own abilities. There is a natural exchange across cultures in this artistic process. Parading their artistic creations in and around the town center before an appreciative audience links the townspeople of Hillsborough to the act of creativity in the most rewarding and public way possible." a sad day for me: really missing my sister. this is a picture I took 3 years ago at linda and alan's wedding. they brought "total and absoulute happiness to each other" (alan) and had just 3 years together - 2 as a married couple. I am very glad alan and his family are now part of our family. and when I am very quiet... the air still holds linda's spirited joy...
