happy new year!
"winter is a time for us to slow down and explore deeper aspects of who we are. while new year resolutions can be the push we need to take care of ourselves, the commitment to the treadmill is often just another way to keep us running from our own inner sense of self.
the holiday season of lights is there to remind us that our inner light burns bright in the darkest of times. bringing light into the darkness is the act of making the unconscious conscious.
as you make your new year resolutions, make sure they serve the unlimited you. rather than declaring yet another tiring war against your own body image or life situation, connect to motivation that is rooted in love."

in memory of eric diener
I learned tonight of the death of a good friend, eric diener. he and I worked together in the office of an independent school. his vital enthusiasm and professionalism helped to grow the school's enrollment, buildings and grounds. he was an avid cyclist and intentional community builder. my prayers go to his family in this time of loss. I will miss him.
"it takes a long time to grow an old friend."

turkey day at my house and feeling very lucky to have my family here.
"to the outside world we all grow old. but not to brothers and sisters. we know each other as we always were. we know each other's hearts. we share private family jokes. we remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. we live outside the touch of time."

gorgeous day - temps in the 60's - perfect for... well, ok... raking leaves!
"climb the mountains and get their good tidings. nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. the winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of autumn."

unc students working on a class project video to accompany the song "if you're going to san francisco. be sure to wear a flower in your hair."
(and now you have a great late 60's song in your head all day long!)
"... all across the nation such a strange vibration
people in motion
there's a whole generation with a new explanation
people in motion
people in motion..."

graham memorial hall. it was so blustery this afternoon, I ran inside for some warmth- fireplaces on each end of the hall. caught this student snuggled head to toe in pillows. last day of class before thanksgiving break.
"no day is so bad it can't be fixed with a nap."
